Dad’s 135is is in the shop, he got this 430i as a loaner and let me drive it some.

And it was superior in every way to your car, clearly. =)

the -30i is back. What is the actual engine this time? A 2.0 turbo?!

So he’s got the DCT, and one of the paddles behind the steering wheel wasn’t made correctly so it like a piece of sharp metal sticking out, so that’s getting fixed, and they’re updating the connected drive cause they’re changing the radio it communicates with. He had in there a week or so ago to update it, he tried it this week and it didn’t work, so back to the shop.

Duh, E90 M3 < 430i

Yeah, at least the 428i with a 2.0L turbo made sense. One of the first turbo cars BMW sold was the 745i (yes I know the 2002 turbo predates the e23 745i), it was a 3.2L turbo. BMW got 45 buy multiplying the displacement by 1.4 to give the number they said the turbo made the engine equivalent to in displacement. So 2.0 x 1.4 = 2.8, least that makes sense if you’re gonna go back and look at the origin of BMW nomenclature. Now it’s like well, how about some random numbers, that’ll work.

Good times. Did you get your airbag recall done yet? Got the frickin’ letter in March...

Not yet, need to do that. Think I got my letter in Feburary.

Why did I read “loaner” as “boner”?
![]() 12/01/2016 at 14:08 |

Just made the call today, said they’ll let me know when they have the part in.

Guess I should do that. Well I’m gonna go with my dad to return the car later, so might just talk to them in person.

Uh, I think so.

I think the letter said to just wait to hear from BMW or the dealer, but I’ve waited long enough, especially considering this piece of cheap shit in my steering wheel has the potential to be fatal to me or my wife...

Doug DeMuro got it right, it’s just marketing numbers at this point (bigger = better). BMW 4300i should mean “4-series, has 300hp”.
Nobody buying BMWs cares about natural-aspiration-equivalence, if that is even a thing.

It is all about marketing, most people are just buying the badge.
Turbos have come along way since the 80s, it was more of a historical reference for BMW nomenclature. I doubt there’s and natural aspiration equilivance anymore, if there ever was.

What’s the difference between this and a 330i Gran Tourismo? Just the lift back?
![]() 12/01/2016 at 15:09 |

The 430i also has a lift back, so I’m not really sure.

They put a 4 where the 3 used to be.
Now they can charge you more.

what did they do to fix it? I had exactly the same problem on mine, it was so sharp my finger bled once from being cut by the edge lol. I just filed it with some sandpaper.

They just replaced the paddle, since it’s still under warranty.
